Crab Apple Hill Fire

Firefighters said no one was injured in the residential fire on Crab Apple Hill.

LAFAYETTE, La. – Lafayette firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Crab Apple Hill around 12:13 p.m. on Tuesday. An occupant of the house called 911 to report her laundry room was on fire. When firefighters arrived, all occupants were outside in a safe location without any injuries. Firefighters entered the home and discovered the fire in the laundry room. The fire was quickly extinguished but the laundry room sustained heavy fire damage. All other rooms in the house only had smoke damage.

Two adult and a young child were home when the fire started. The child alerted her mother of the fire. She instructed her 4-year-old daughter to exit the home and go to the meeting place. She alerted the other adult, grabbed a fire extinguisher and began extinguishing the fire. They both exited the home and met the child at the mailbox while waiting for first responders to arrive. The family practiced a fire drill in the past and were very thankful for doing so. The utilization of the fire extinguisher contained the fire and lessened the fire damage to the home.

Fire officials determined the fire originated in the laundry room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
