Opelousas, La(KADN)- "It's been hard. It's been a struggle."
It's been seven years since Erica Hunt vanished, though remains found in rural Evangeline Parish two years later were identified as hers in 2021. Yet the case still hasn't been solved.
Pain crosses Shannon Isaac's face, relieved she was able to bury her child, but still holding on that her killer will be found. "We are waiting patiently with the faith of God that Justice will be served. We've waited for so long and everything."
The room was filled with not only family and friends but the color pink.
"That was her favorite color," cries Isaac.
Some days are hard for Isaac but she stays strong with the help of the family and the baby girl her daughter conceived. She reminds her every day who her mother was.
"By her memory and a lot of pictures, we tell her everything because she came to us at the age of two years old. She is her mama's twin," says Isaac.
Miranda Isaac, Erica Hunt's aunt admits it's been hard on the entire family, heartbroken the case continues to be at a standstill.
Knowing her niece is in heaven justice is all they are asking for. "We need the community's help as well because we can't do it by ourselves. It takes one, it takes a whole community to bring justice to any family. Unsolved murders they have in Opelousas alone."
Hunt's mother says they plan to keep Erica's name alive by continuing to tell her story. Though she only wants one thing from the person or persons responsible. "Come forward and please turn himself in, 'cause it will give us some closure."
