1 of 2 suspects wanted in New Iberia shooting that injured 3, including 2 children, turns himself in; 2nd suspect still wanted

NEW IBERIA, La. (KADN) — New Iberia police said one of two suspects wanted for a shooting that injured three people, including two children, late in July has surrendered to them.

Authorities said Davian Batiste, 23, of New Iberia, is being booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. He faces the following charges:

  • Attempted First-Degree Murder (7 counts)
  • Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Illegal Use of Weapons
  • Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Machine Gun
  • Hit and Run Driving (2 counts)

Police added the other suspect, Dartanion Boutte, 29, of Franklin is still wanted on the following charges:

  • Attempted First-Degree Murder (7 counts)
  • Aggravated Second-Degree Battery
  • Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property
  • Illegal Use of Weapons

The New Iberia Police Department said officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Spencer Loop on Monday, July 29, just before 5 p.m. NIPD added officers found that a 6-year-old boy, 12-year-old boy, and man had been shot. The three victims were taken to a Lafayette hospital in stable condition.

Detectives said their investigation revealed Boutte arrived at the home and had a fight with a woman he has a child with. They added that after the fight, Boutte left the home, got into the passenger seat of a vehicle, and then fired shots at the home, which had several people inside at the time.

Police said while trying to flee, Batiste, who was driving, crashed into two vehicles. They added he also fired shots at the home.
