LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) - As the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus continues to strike communities, companies are mandating that some or all employees get vaccinated or provide proof of vaccination.
As companies prepare to implement the Biden administration's covid-19 vaccine mandate many feel that it's necessary to ensure we stop the spread of covid.
One lafayette resident says "I really do think that the mandate was put in place because obviously, it's becoming a really big problem it's been a problem for over a year now so I think they're just trying to do something about it to where we don't have to deal with it later on and there just trying to make it safer".
While businesses wait for more details from the occupational safety and health administration people say along with FDA approval this may also push them to get vaccinated.
"I know a lot of people don't get it because they say it's still an experiment it's not safe you don't know what it's going to do to your body so now that it's approved maybe people will get it because they believe it's safer they feel more confident in what they putting into there bodies".
The new mandates will cover about 100 million workers or two-thirds of all workers in the U.S. One lafayette resident says she doesn't think people should be concerned about their rights because this vaccine will ultimately save lives.
She says "But I really don't think it should be a concern of them because in the end, this is going to end up being any vaccine that we get when we're children like tetanus shot it's not like you want that disease to happen again so we prevent it from spreading and from happening again because it's going to be an old thing one day".
Now a formal rule from the occupational safety and health administration plans to issue more information within the coming weeks.
