UPDATE: The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was requested by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) to investigate an officer-involved shooting incident involving their department Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021,.

Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 12:15 p.m., APSO deputies responded to a residence on Kathy Meadows Lane in Crowley in reference to a subject wanted for questioning in a homicide investigation by the Jennings Police Department. Deputies also discovered that same subject had an active warrant out of Acadia Parish. Upon coming into contact with the subject at his apartment, a deputy was shot. At least one deputy on the scene returned fire as the deputies established a perimeter around the residence. After several unsuccessful attempts were made to establish a dialog with the subject, entry was made into the residence by the APSO SWAT team. The subject was located and discovered to be deceased. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and was last reported to be in stable condition.

Louisiana State Police Crime Lab processed the scene. This is an active investigation and information will be released as the investigative process continues.

(KADN) -  Officers with the Jennings Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at a home in the 300 block of Phyllis Drive on July 24, 2021. According to Jennings Police Chief, Danny Semmes, the homeowner, identified as Steven Lazard, shot an armed subject that approached his home. Lazard told police he and his girlfriend were sitting home when their Ring doorbell went off. Police say Lazard armed himself with his AR-15 and confronted the subject. Chief Semmes said they obtained the video from the Ring doorbell camera that shows the subject, identified as a 17-year-old male, firing shots at Lazard. Lazard then returned fire wounding the subject.

Chief Semmes says when officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, the subject was pronounced dead. Lazard was arrested and is currently in jail for Illegal possession of stolen firearms. No bond is set at this time.

Witnesses told police the unidentified subject was last seen with the subject from Crowley.
Jennings Police contacted the Acadia Parish Sheriff's office in an attempt to locate the subject for questioning. It was discovered that Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office had a warrant for the subject. The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office located the subject at the Kathy Apartments on Kathy Meadows Lane in Crowley and attempted to serve a warrant.

An Acadia Parish deputy was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with the suspect last seen with the teen, and  it's unclear right now how the Crowley standoff suspect died: from wounds received in the exchange of fire or self-inflicted.

Jennings Police were then informed of the standoff between the subject and deputies and later informed the subject was deceased.

We are awaiting more information from State Police but will continue to bring you information as it becomes available.
