Unrestrained Driver Succumbs to Injuries Received in Two-Vehicle Crash

Bell City – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash at the intersection of LA Hwy 397 (Helms Road) and Ward Line Road in Calcasieu Parish on September 3, 2020, shortly after 12:00 p.m. The crash ultimately resulted in the death of 63-year-old Harold Edward Nash of Lake Charles.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Ford F150, driven by Nash, was traveling south on Ward Line Road. At the same time, a 2003 Ford F250 was traveling west on LA Hwy 397. Nash failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and was struck on the left side / driver’s side by the Ford F250.
Neither driver was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Nash sustained serious injuries and the driver of the Ford F250 sustained moderate injuries and were transported by air ambulance to a Lafayette area hospital for treatment. The crash remains under investigation.
On September 13, 2020, Troop D was notified that Nash had succumbed to his injuries sustained during the crash.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and follow all traffic laws. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt.
