Opelousas – Shortly before 3:30 this afternoon, Troopers with Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 749 at Grace Street. The crash ultimately took the life of 20-year-old Jason Guillory of Washington, LA.
The preliminary investigation revealed Guillory was traveling south on LA 749 in a 2009 Ford Mustang. For reasons still under investigation, Guillory crossed the centerline after entering a left curve and ran off of the roadway. His vehicle struck a ditch and began to roll over, causing Guillory to be ejected. He was transported to Lafayette General Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Impairment is unknown at this time and a standard toxicology report is pending. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
Troop I has investigated 35 fatal crashes resulting in 38 deaths in 2020.
