St. Martinville, LA-According to Sheriff Becket Breaux, on September 9, 2020, a Deputy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s was conducting proactive narcotics enforcement in the 200 block of West Mills Avenue in Breaux Bridge, LA.; when he observed a suspected drug transaction between two individuals. Upon making contact with the individuals, consent to search was granted. Following a subsequent search of the two individuals, Michael James Hebert, II, 55, Breaux Bridge, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine. A search of both vehicles, yielded suspected crack cocaine, U.S. Currency, and a handgun in the vehicle belonging to Joseph H. Clay, 32, Breaux Bridge.
During the course of the investigation a subsequent search was also conducted at Joseph H. Clay’s residence where Deputies located additional U.S. Currency, suspected crack cocaine, suspected methamphetamine; synthetic cannabinoids, suspected MDMA (Ecstasy), Lortab, various items of drug paraphernalia, and items consistent for use in a clandestine laboratory for the production of crack cocaine.
Upon culmination of the investigation, the following individuals were charged as follows:

LA RS 40:967A; Manufacture; Distribution Schedule II CDS (4 Counts) - Crack Cocaine (2X), Methamphetamine, and Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone

LA RS 40:1041; Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses (2 Counts)

This investigation occurred in the vicinity of multiple drug-free zones. Following their arrests, they were both booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on the above charges. At the time of this release, no bond had been set.
