Deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 300 block of Dynasty Lane in the Opelousas area in regards to a juvenile incident on July 21, 2021. Upon arrival, contact was made with a witness who stated that she walked outside her home and saw that a juvenile under the age of 17 years was on the ground. Two individuals were punching and stomping the juvenile.”
When deputies spoke with the witness, she stated that the incident took place in the victim’s front yard at approximately 7:00pm. The witness ran to the juvenile’s home to notify the mother of the altercation. The two (2) individuals then fled the area on foot, while making threats to “shoot up” the homes of the witness and the juvenile.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the juvenile was standing in his front yard when Josiah Joseph ran up to the juvenile and punched him in the face. The juvenile attempted to defend himself and fell to the ground while in an altercation with Josiah Joseph. Once on the ground, Damien joined the altercation by kicking the juvenile in the head.
On July 21, 2021, Josiah Rey Joseph was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and was booked for Cruelty to Juveniles. He was given a bond of $3,500.
On July 22, 2021, Damien Joseph Lastrapes was booked at the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with Cruelty to Juveniles also. His bond was set at $2,500.
