Tropical Storm Gonzalo formed early Wednesday morning.

Gonzalo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Lesser Antilles this weekend.

After moving through the Lesser Antilles, it is expected to begin weakening as it passes south of the island of Hispaniola.

Gonzalo is the earliest seventh named storm on record in the Atlantic Basin.

A broad area of low pressure has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, with showers and thunderstorms developing around it.

This system is expected to begin to strengthen and move west-northwestward.

Heavy, tropical downpours are expected to reach Acadiana Thursday afternoon and continue on and off through the weekend.

Most areas will see one to three inches of rainfall through the next five days, but some areas could see more, especially along the coast.

The biggest question in the coming days will be where does the center of the system go, as this will determine where the heaviest rains will fall.

This low could develop into another named system before it moves ashore in Texas, with Hanna being the next name on the list.

Things will change with this system, so stay tuned to News15 for updates and download the News15 news and weather apps to get alerted about the newest information on both systems.
