Tropical Depression 14 formed Thursday morning in the Caribbean Sea.
It is expected to become a tropical storm as it heads westward in the coming days.
The tropical depression is expected to turn more northerly by the weekend and approach the Texas and Louisiana coastlines by Tuesday.
Greater than normal uncertainty exists as to where this system will end up and how strong it will be, so this path is likely to change.
Regardless of a landfall near Acadiana, Tropical Depression 14 will send tropical moisture to the north, increasing rain chances here in the Acadiana region.
In the Atlantic, Tropical Depression 13 (which formed Wednesday night) is expected to continue moving westward.
There is also a lot of uncertainty with how strong this system will be and where it tracks, especially in the short term forecast.
By early next week, it is expected to reach the eastern Gulf of Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane.
High pressure is expected to push it westward at first, but a turn to the north is expected by the middle of the week.
It is too early to know for sure its path and intensity at that point in time.
