Transportation Assistance for Hurricane Laura Evacuees in Acadiana

Lafayette, LA – Hurricane Laura evacuees currently in the Acadiana area who are still unable to return to their homes may be eligible to enter the DCFS/RedCross non-congregate hotel shelter program. To enter the program evacuees must report to the MegaShelter Reception Center in Alexandria to be placed in a non-congregate shelter as one becomes available. Acadiana Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Acadiana VOAD), in collaboration with the DCFS, Lafayette Consolidated Government and 232-HELP, is coordinating limited bus transportation from Lafayette to the MegaShelter for qualifying evacuees in urgent need of shelter.
Who: Hurricane Laura evacuees in Acadiana who are
· unable to return to their homes,
· without transportation, and
· in immediate need of a place to stay.
Primary consideration will be given to residents of Calcasieu, Cameron and parts of Beauregard Parishes. All others will be validated.
Evacuees whose homes sustained minor damages and are now habitable are encouraged to return home. All evacuees who sustained losses from Laura should complete the FEMA registration process as soon as possible.

What: Transportation via bus to the Alexandria MegaShelter Reception Center, 8125 Hwy 71 South, Alexandria, for eligible evacuees who do not have their own means of transportation.

When: Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 22, and continuing as needed while the non-congregate shelter program is in operation. Pickup time TBD.

Where: Pickup location at Clifton Chenier Center, 220 W. Willow St., Lafayette, LA
