Lafayette, LA (KADN) -- As just a sophomore Lafayette Christian quarterback Jujuan Johnson leads the four-time defending state champions. Last year he was thrown into the position after starting quarterback Ryan Roberts was injured.
"Flow through the game don't try to force anything," Jujuan explained. " Play like you playing."
Jujuan is responsible for all but two of LCA's touchdowns this season. He plays hard for his single mom.
"I had renal kidney failure so both of my kidneys shut down on me," Jujuan's mom Tamica Francis said.
"He couldn't have like a job she would get like a check or something," Jujuan said. "She would work off of that honestly and sacrifice a lot of things for us."
Tamica had a successful kidney transplant 3 years ago. She is grateful to be alive for her three kids.
"No matter what came at me, I fought and I didn't give up and he saw that in me," Tamica said. "Jujuan saw that in me."
Jujuan is never looking for sympathy out on the football field just improvement. He picked up a few tips from Ragin' Cajuns quarterback Levi Lewis this summer.
"Throwing the ball especially and having the ball up higher when I release," Jujuan said. "Have a quicker snap in my wrist."
Jujuan wears number 16 this season, but he normally wears seven to celebrate his mom's birthday December 7th.
"Even though she's a woman, she taught me how to become a man," Jujuan said.
"It doesn't matter about the number on your chest what matters is what is inside that number," Tamica said. "He tells me all the time that I'm his biggest why but he doesn't know that he's mine."
