Patrol Officers of the Youngsville Police Department received a call for service regarding a suspicious circumstance at the Farmers and Merchants Bank located at 412 Iberia Street on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at approximately 4:29 a.m. Upon arriving on scene, officers located a witness, who was also the complainant who stated he heard a loud crash coming from the location of the bank. The witness further stated he observed the ATM machine laying on the ground and a pickup truck near the ATM machine. The witness stated a few seconds later he observed three subjects, who appeared to be males, running west on Iberia Street, away from the location of the ATM. The witness stated a dark colored four door sedan traveling east on Iberia Street picked up the subjects. The suspect vehicle continued to travel east on Iberia Street as it fled the area.

Upon further investigation on the scene, officers learned that the suspects had stolen the pickup truck out of the City of Lafayette. The suspects used the truck and a large chain to rip the front housing off the ATM machine. The suspects then gained access to the currency bins contained within the ATM machine. The suspects took possession of the currency bins and fled from the scene with an undisclosed amount of currency. Detectives were called out to the scene to further the investigation. As part of the investigation, detectives and officers canvassed the areas to establish the suspects exit from the City of Youngsville. While canvassing the areas, detectives and officers located the currency bins the suspects removed from the ATM machine discarded along Louisiana Highway 89/Youngsville Highway.

Through investigations, detectives have established that in addition to the stolen truck utilized to access the ATM, the suspects were operating the dark colored sedan that was observed by the witness and a lite colored four door sedan. The investigation is ongoing by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Youngsville Police Department.

Through investigation in conjunction with the St. Tammy Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives have been able to identify the suspects responsible for this crime. Detectives with the Youngsville Police Department in conjunction with detectives from several other agencies are actively searching for the suspects. The suspects identities are not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation. Once all suspects have been captured and taken into custody, their identities will be released at that time.
