If you have a child under the age of 18 chances are, you'll be getting some cash from the federal government. Child tax credit payments will be disbursed on the 15th of each month and one parent believes this will help a lot of people in poverty.

"Well, I'm excited i know from what people are saying it's going to really help lift a lot of children and families out of poverty"

Many families already have big plans for the child tax credit payments that include putting it into their savings or using it for childcare.

"We're excited to have the extra money to help with childcare expenses so were looking forward that's what we're planning to use the money for"

A few parents on Facebook said they will be using the payments to go towards daycare.. household bills... school uniforms and supplies... for parents who choose to opt out it doesn't mean you're not turning down the credit it just means you delaying when you get it.

Leslie Robertson is the mother of two and believes this is a step in the right direction.

"I just think it's a good thing for families and for everybody so were happy about it and seems like most of the moms and people that i know are happy and have chosen to get it so yeah we're excited"
