Safehouse is a nonprofit focused on ministry and addiction recovery.

Executive director john nugent says he began this project because he saw a need to aide former addicts and prisoners in transitioning back into their communities.

According to the Louisiana Department of health drug involved deaths skyrocketed in may during the height of the pandemic.

Nugent struggled with addiction for most of his life. He says it's important to help others on their path to recovery.

One major issue for convicted felons is finding work which can seem like an impossible task to achieve.

The sober living house is built around the S.A.F.E method Sobriety, Activism, Financial health and Education which gives people tools to become productive citizens in the community.
