LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) - According to the census Lafayette parish has the highest population of Hispanics here in Louisiana. Studies show there's a steady increase of Hispanics in the State of Louisiana with lafayette leading. One Hispanic supermarket says having a piece of home away from home means a lot.

Secia Zelaya says "it's good to have it you know because people from other countries Mexico, Columbia, and Honduras feel home whenever they come here and see any products that you don't see in the United States they feel like their home".

Zelaya says the Covid 19 pandemic has brought them many challenges but despite uncertainties there here to stay.

Zelaya says "That affected us a lot and we have many products that come from different places Houston Atlanta so some of them they just stopped doing it because of that that really affected us a lot but we're still getting some".

Throughout Hispanic heritage month, Zelaya wants to encourage others to try foods from different countries but most importantly to understand why the move to America poses a better lifestyle.

She says "Don't listen to bad comments what other people say as you know everybody comes here to work and have better opportunities because you don't have these opportunities in your country so just keep going work hard and you will achieve your dream".
