Suspect arrested after allegedly fleeing from police and firing shots at them

St. Martinville Police were led on a pursuit to Lafayette Parish after attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

ST. MARTINVILLE, LA - St. Martinville Police were led on a pursuit to Lafayette Parish after attempting to conduct a traffic stop. According to St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin, the vehicle pursuit started on Church Street and ended on Bayou Tortue Road in Lafayette Parish. Patrol officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after the driver was allegedly driving erratically and the vehicle fled. Chief Martin says, while being pursued the driver, Jalon Gardner (23 years old), shot at officers several times from his vehicle. Officers did not return fire and the vehicle crashed into a ditch. The driver fled on foot and was captured shortly after. No one was injured.

He will be booked into the St Martin Parish Jail and charged with Attempted Murder of a police officer, aggravated flight, possession with intent to distribute, monies derived, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and modified exhaust.
