OPELOUSAS – St. Landry Parish government started issuing sandbags for parish residents Sunday, September 20, from 9:30 a.m. until sunset and again on Monday at the Yambilee Building located at 1939 West Landry St. (US 190) in Opelousas. Tropical Storm Beta is expected to bring lots of rain over the next few days. Up to 15 inches is possible in some areas of the parish.
Residents in flood prone areas should consider staying with family or friends who live on higher ground. Residents who live in municipalities in the parish should check with their city or town officials about local sandbagging times.
