Lake Charles, La- In support of Second Harvest’s Food Bank’s hurricane relief work in Southwest Louisiana, following Hurricanes Laura and Delta, Phillips 66 Lake Charles Refinery has made a gift of $30,000 to fund critical food and supplies to support the ongoing recovery efforts. Hurricane Laura was the strongest hurricane to ever hit Louisiana, causing widespread devastation across Southwest Louisiana. Homes and businesses were destroyed, and the historic storm devasted electrical grids and water systems across the region. Only a month later, Hurricane Delta struck the region as a Category 2 storm, devastating rebuilding efforts and leaving families and individuals without shelter, water, and food. “From the pandemic to our hurricane-ravaged region, this year has been a challenge for all of us in Southwest Louisiana. Phillips 66 recognizes the consistent contribution of Second Harvest, as they have been there every step of the way bringing groceries to fill local food pantries. Phillips 66 is committed to supporting hunger relief efforts in our community,” said Jolie Rhinehart, Phillips 66 Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex General Manager. “Two major hurricanes hitting South Louisiana in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic was truly a worst-case scenario that we dreaded this year,” said Natalie Jayroe, President and CEO of
Second Harvest Food Bank. “Immediately following each storm, Second Harvest hit the ground running, organizing food, water, and supply distributions, and working with our regional partners to ensure those impacted had access to the food they needed. It is only with the support of partners like Phillips 66 that we can continue our recovery efforts longer-term. With their support, we can continue rebuilding Southwest Louisiana, ensuring families and businesses can return to a thriving community.
