UPDATE: During the investigation, investigators learned that a homeless couple was residing in the unoccupied , abandoned home. After reviewing the evidence at and away from the scene, the male subject residing at the residence was questioned. Once seeing the evidence and speaking with investigators, he admitted to purposely lighting the fire on Tuesday (10/20/20). The information is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office so that the appropriate charges can be filed.
On Sunday at 5:16 PM, Scott Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire in the 500 block of Pecan Grove Road. While responding to the incident, dispatchers informed responding personnel that additional callers were reporting a residential fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a brick home fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses informed firefighters that the home was vacant, however occupied by vagrants. They also informed firefighters they believe a female was still located inside the burning structure. Firefighters began to extinguish the fire , while a second crew conducted a primary search to locate any victims trapped inside. No one was located inside the structure ,and the female believed to be trapped inside arrived on the scene a short time later. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
No one was injured as a result of the incident. The home was a total loss as a result of the fire damage. Firefighters from Lafayette, Judice and Duson responded to assist.
