Lafayette has always been home to an innovative and highly motivated workforce. So, it is no surprise the market leader in K-12 enrollment has decided to relocate their headquarters from Silicon Valley to Lafayette, and the Lafayette Women’s Chamber of Commerce is excited to be part of it.
In a press conference today held at the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Theater in the LITE Center hosted by Gregg Gothreaux of LEDA, Governor John Bel Edwards made the official announcement. On hand for this press conference was CEO of SchoolMint, Bryan MacDonald, along with other dignitaries including Secretary Don Pierson of LED, Mayor/President Josh Guillory, President Joseph Savoie of ULL, and others.
Helping local businesses grow and expand in Lafayette is one of the core tenets at the Lafayette Women’s Chamber of Commerce (WCC), and we were very excited when SchoolMint engaged our team to help them network with local and state economic development authorities to explore a potential move.
In November last year, SchoolMint acquired one of Lafayette’s most innovative technology businesses, Smart Choice Technologies, the edtech division of Firefly Digital. A few months ago, former Firefly and Smart Choice CEO, Mike Spears reached out to the Women’s Chamber and asked if we would join LEDA and LED to explore the benefits of moving their headquarters from San Francisco to Lafayette. Of course, we were happy to join the team.
“SchoolMint is a great addition to our business community. Their growth plans will add to Lafayette’s growing high tech workforce as they expect to expand and grow their team in Lafayette substantially over the next few years,” said Debbey Ryan, WCC President and Founder. “We look forward to our partnership and continued support of SchoolMint, as the newest member of our chamber sets out to build a brighter future for K-12 students and their families, from right here in Acadiana.”
