At approximately 2:28 PM on July 22, 2020 deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home in the 11800 block of Old Jeanerette Road regarding an alleged attempted suicide. The complainant reported that her adult stepson threatened to harm himself. When deputies arrived and spoke to the complainant , they learned that the stepson had fled into the home where
he had access to multiple firearms.
Deputies surrounded the home and, over the next four and a half hours, made a variety of attempts to contact him which included the use of negotiators from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
The SWAT team eventually made entry into the home and took custody of the stepson without incident. The stepson was taken to a local medical facility for observation. No criminal charges were filed.
