LAFAYETTE, LA -- Lafayette parish mayor president Josh Guillory revealed a 70 project proposal to spend $86 million in funds provided by president Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act.

The plan of this budget is focused on four areas which are drainage, roads, bridges, public safety, and competitive investments. Residents around the city are ready for the move.

“Something could be done other than what’s being done.” Jared Sauble said.

Federal funds looking to be split between city and parish government operations has many residents hoping issues will be fixed in the area.

“I think there is a lot of work to be done for roads and improving traffic, but that is if he actually does it.” Aubrey Barnes Said.

The bulk of the money in Guillory’s 18-page proposal is split between roads and draining areas with 22.6 million will be going towards drainage projects.

“I feel like when it rains like that, and the water backs up it not only backs up the streets. The streets are overloaded, but it also backs up people's personal homes.” Jared Sauble said.

Lafayette resident Jared Sauble says he believes drainage projects are the main concern for people in the area.

“The drainage issue causes accidents with cars; people slip and fall. Why not spend the money or whatever it takes to clean this drainage system out or put pipes in the ground, idk?” Jared Sauble said.

The new projects aim to not only attract new residents and business to Lafayette but enhance the quality of life for citizens by upgrading the facilities here in the hub city.

Josh Gulluiory said in a statement that he looks forward to working closely with local leaders, stakeholders, and service providers to ensure that these projects are completed on time and under budget. To view more information about the proposal click here.
