Public's assistance needed in identifying suspect in physical assault incident

OPELOUSAS, LA - Opelousas Police need the public’s assistance in identifying the individual responsible for attacking and severely injuring a male victim in the 300 blk of E. Jefferson St. on Aug. 11, 2021. The incident happened just before 7:00 P.M. Officers on patrol were notified by a witness who observed the victim lying on the side of the roadway. Upon arrival officers located the victim who was unconscious and had visible head injuries. The incident was captured on surveillance video. Attached are images of a vehicle of interest that the attacker was seeing getting out of before the attack and re-entering after the attack. The victim of the attack was known by law enforcement as a person who suffered from mental illness and was commonly seen walking all throughout the city. The victim was found to have suffered from severe head trauma and has been receiving medical treatment since the attack.
