Lafayette Consolidated Government has made pride month official and now the community is ready to celebrate. Sugarwolf Outdoor Exchange is hosting a day of acceptance and inclusion for the occasion. Co-owner Brandi Comeaux says the LGBTQ+ community spent a lot of time feeling unaccepted, so this means a lot.

"So just having even just the handful of members that acknowledged it this month for Lafayette is such a big deal as far as visibility and inclusion goes"

Comeaux hopes their first ever pride event will bring people together.

"The purpose of the event this weekend is to allow everybody a chance to just be surrounded by other people in the community whether there allies or part of the LGBTQI community and celebrate in a space where everybody is accepted"

Businesses downtown will be decorated in support of pride to show people of the LGBTQ+ community that they're not only welcomed, but accepted.

"The biggest and most vibrant thing that we've done is painted the windows out front which is one of the small things that you can do that really just says like hey your welcome here your accepted here"

Comeaux believes this is only the beginning for acadiana but hopes this continues for years to come.

"What I hope for the future is that acadiana as a whole can really celebrate all of the people that live here that are so vibrant and so just want to be accepted"
