Cleco: Power restored to 98 percent of customers affected by second winter storm

As of 12 p.m. today, Cleco has restored power to 98 percent of the roughly 43,000 customers who lost electricity after a second winter storm hit the company’s service territory within the same week.

UPDATE: PINEVILLE, La. – Feb. 21, 2021 (12 p.m.) – As of 12 p.m. today, Cleco has restored power to 98 percent of the roughly 43,000 customers who lost electricity after a second winter storm hit the company’s service territory within the same week. “There are a small number of customers without power, and we’re working to restore power to these remaining customers today. Any customer who does not have power after today, should call and report an outage,” said James Lass, director of distribution operations and emergency management. How to report a power outage:

· Online through MyAccount at cleco.com (register at cleco.com)

· Contact Us form at cleco.com

Instructions for customers who need a reconnect after repairs: If there is any damage to a customer’s home or business or to the electrical service entrance that may pose a danger if power is restored, Cleco cannot energize the service until repairs are made by a licensed electrician. Once repairs are made, the electrician should call the appropriate governing authority for instructions regarding permitting and inspections. Restoration Updates Below are estimated times for restoration (ETR) in the remaining parishes with outages. Please note that unexpected damage or inclement weather could impact restoration efforts and timelines. The ETRs also will be posted on Cleco’s website and Facebook page. Grant Parish

· Power will be restored to the remaining customers by tonight except for some camps. Off-road equipment is needed to make repairs and restore power to these customers. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 22.

Rapides Parish

Avoyelles Parish

· Power will be restored to the remaining customers by tonight except for customers in the Grassy Lake area. Cleco serves about 217 customers in Grassy Lake which are predominantly camps. This is a very rural area. Power will be restored to these customers on Monday, Feb. 22.

Evangeline Parish

· Power will be restored to the remaining customers by tonight.

DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River and Sabine Parishes

· Power has been restored to all customers who can receive power. Customers in these parishes without power should report an outage.

PINEVILLE, La. – Feb. 20, 2021 (4 p.m.) – As of 4 p.m. today, Cleco has restored power to nearly 37,000 customers affected by the second winter storm. At the height of the storm, approximately 43,000 customers were without power. Restoration Update Below is an update on power restoration in Gardner, Cotile, Wilda and Hot Wells. Please note that unexpected damage or inclement weather could impact restoration efforts and timelines. This update also is on Cleco’s website and Facebook page. Rapides Parish – Gardner, Cotile, Wilda and Hot Wells

· During storm restoration, a large, high-voltage transformer in Cleco’s distribution substation in the Gardner community failed. A mobile transformer has been delivered to the substation site to serve as a backup power source.

· It will take several hours to unload, install and connect the mobile transformer to Cleco’s system.

· The Gardner Substation supplies power to approximately 1,300 customers in Gardner, Cotile, Wilda and Hot Wells. Provided Cleco personnel do not encounter any unexpected damage or delays, the company estimates power will be restored to most, if not all, of these customers later tonight.

· Operate portable generators outdoors in well-ventilated areas and plug appliances directly into generators with grounded extension cords. Never plug a generator into a wall outlet.

· Assume all downed power lines are live and stay away. Report downed power lines immediately by calling 1-800-622-6537 and 911.

Power has been restored to approximately 93 percent of customers in Grant Parish. Crews are still working in these areas and will continue working throughout the weekend and possibly Monday, Feb. 22 making repairs and restoring power. Cleco estimates power will be restored to approximately 99 percent of customers in Grant Parish by tonight.

Rapides Parish

Power has been restored to approximately 91 percent of customers in Rapides Parish. There are a large number of isolated and scattered outages. Crews will be working throughout the weekend and possibly Monday, Feb. 22 making repairs and restoring power. Cleco estimates power will be restored to approximately 95 percent of customers by tonight.

Avoyelles Parish

· Moreauville and Simmesport – Power has been restored to all customers who can receive power.

· Bunkie and St. Landry (town) – Crews are working in these areas, and power will be restored to 85 percent of these customers by tonight.

· Mansura, Hessmer, Cottonport, Effie, Marksville (outside city limits), Plaucheville, Effie, Vick – Crews have been working in these areas for multiple days. Tree damage was significant. Power will be restored to 75 percent of these customers by tonight.

· There will be some camps without power until Monday, Feb. 22.

Evangeline Parish

· Bayou Chicot and Turkey Creek – Crews are working in these areas, and power will be restored to 85 percent of these customers by tonight.

DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River and Sabine Parishes

· Crews have restored power to most customers in these four parishes. There are currently about 347 customers without power. Power will be restored to 99 percent of these customers by tonight. Crews will work throughout the weekend on any remaining outages and make other needed repairs to return Cleco’s system back to normal operations.

PINEVILLE, La. – Feb. 19, 2021 (4 p.m.) – As of 4 p.m. Cleco has restored power to approximately 30,000 of the roughly 43,000 customers who lost power after a second winter storm hit Cleco’s service territory within the same week. “We’re making progress,” said James Lass, director of distribution and emergency management. “Our crews are patrolling lines and making repairs as safely and quickly as possible to restore power to our remaining customers.” Cleco’s damage assessments indicate that power outages from the second winter storm were primarily due to the accumulation of ice. “So far, our crews have found 187 trees on power lines throughout our service territory. They also found broken poles, damaged transformers, broken cross arms and downed power lines,” said Lass. Cleco provided estimated times for restoration (ETR) during its noon update and will continue to share ETRs as they become available on its website and Facebook page. Power Outages as of 4 p.m.
