NEW IBERIA, La. - Heart for Iberia and the Iberia Mental Health Initiative cordially invite participants to run a 5K or walk a mile in the first annual Bayou Side Run. This event will be held in downtown New Iberia on Saturday, May 22, 2021, beginning at 8 a.m.
The race goal is to raise mental health awareness and funds for the Iberia Mental Health Initiative, a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to identifying and addressing the mental health needs of our community.
"Sometimes we need a reminder that we are not alone," said Tripp Wright, Heart for Iberia director. "The Bayou Side 5K is an opportunity for the community to gather together and show their support surrounding mental health. We want to be 'Bayou Side,' join us May 22!”
By participating, runners and walkers can show support for mental health in our community. The participation fee is $25 for individuals. A group discount rate is also available. Runners and walkers who sign up by the end of April will receive a T-shirt commemorating their participation.
Any money raised from participants will be used to support the Iberia Mental Health Initiative. Community businesses, churches and individuals have submitted sponsorship donations to defray race costs.
