Lafayette, La. – Downtown Lafayette and Latter & Blum have teamed up to present two epic fundraising events on Saturday, Oct. 24th!

Pumpkins in the Parc — an annual fundraiser benefiting nonprofits in Acadiana, hosted by Latter & Blum - Acadiana — and Movies in the Parc — a fundraiser series for Downtown Lafayette presented by Lafayette Kiwanis — will take place together this year. Safety precautions will be in place due to the pandemic.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the events will take place at Parc International in Downtown Lafayette. Pumpkins in the Parc will begin at 3 p.m. and followed by the movie “Jurassic Park.”

Gates open for the movie at 6 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, but masks are required.

Participants must wear masks and practice social distancing. Children under the age of eight are encouraged to wear a mask.

Due to current state mandates on outdoor event capacity, everyone must pre-register to attend. All registered attendees can bring a painted pumpkin to enter into the pumpkin-judging contest or paint a pumpkin on site.

The Painted Pumpkin Festival team will provide paint, markers, other decorating materials, and pumpkins to attendees. Adults and children will have fun testing their creative abilities while benefiting a variety of Acadiana area nonprofits. A panel of judges will select first, second, and third place winners in various categories. The painted pumpkin contest will award cash prizes to winners.

“We’ve planned a fun family event,” said Lori McCarthy, co-manager of Latter & Blum’s Acadiana location. “We invite and challenge everyone – including our diverse community of artists – to bring their creations to Parc International and celebrate the
coming autumn days, the community spirit we all enjoy, and the talent that thrives in Acadiana.”

The Haynie Family Foundation, Louisiana Cardiovascular & Limb Salvage, Performing Arts Serving Acadiana (PASA), and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited (DLU) are supporting sponsors of the Great Painted Pumpkin Festival.

“We are so excited to once again pair the Great Painted Pumpkin Festival with Movies in the Parc,” said Downtown Lafayette Unlimited CEO Anita Begnaud. “We look forward to joining attendees in raising funds for so many wonderful causes while safely enjoying a Saturday evening in Downtown Lafayette.”

Movies in the Parc is made possible by presenting sponsor, LafayetteKiwanis alongside partner organization ACLA Latin Music Festival.

Due to current state mandates, everyone must pre-register to attend either event. Registration is $5 per pumpkin and $5 per movie ticket. Painted Pumpkin contest winners will be announced at approximately 6:30 p.m., and the movie will begin around 7 p.m..

Movie-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and other creature comforts to stay cozy during the movie. Popcorn, snacks, and other concessions will be available for sale.
