According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On October 14, 2020, detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office were notified that a person with infirmities was left alone by her caretaker for an extended amount of time and she was unable to care for herself.

Reports indicate that Rachael Tresner was employed as a caretaker for the victim. On Oct. 12, 2020, Rachael Tresner brought her three children to the victim’s residence, where she cared for the children as well as the victim. Rachael Tresner left the residence at 9:30 a.m. to bring one of her children to an appointment while leaving the other two juvenile children at the residence with the victim. Rachael Tresner did not return with her juvenile child until 11:45 a.m.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that Rachael Tresner quit her job and left the residence with her three children at approximately 12 o'clock noon. The residence was on generator power and the victim was worried about being alone due to being on oxygen, unable to get out of bed without assistance and having nothing to eat. The victim was able to contact a family member that evening for assistance.

When questioned by detectives, Rachael Tresner admitted to being the victim’s caretaker and that the victim was physically unable to care for herself. She also admitted that she left the victim alone and was not planning to return due to being cussed at by the victim.

Rachael Tresner further admitted that her children left trash throughout the residence and a trail of human feces on the floor from the bedroom to the bathroom.

On Oct. 15, 2020, Rachael Lynn Tresner was brought to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on the charge of Cruelty to a Person with Infirmities.
