Opelousas Police Arrest Man On Outstanding Warrant for Attempted Second Degree Murder

Officers with the Opelousas Police Department were provided information by an off duty St. Landry Sheriff's Office deputy about the location of a wanted fugitive.

Officers with the Opelousas Police Department were  provided information by an off duty St. Landry Sheriff's Office deputy about the location of a wanted fugitive. Desmond Richard , 30 , of Opelousas was wanted for an outstanding warrant for Attempted second degree murder. Using the vehicle description supplied by the off duty deputy, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by  Richard on Railroad Ave. Upon taking  Richard into custody he was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun.  Richard was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following new charges as well as the outstanding Attempted second degree murder warrant.
