Lafayette - Hurricane Ida may be a month behind us but that doesn’t mean those most affected aren't still in need of help as many continue to rebuild.

Here in Acadiana, relief efforts are still underway -- the latest by more than a dozen organizations that partnered together for a two-day donation drive.

For a lot of us it can be easy to forget those who are facing hardships. While Acadiana has been spared the worst of the past two hurricane seasons, they haven’t forgotten about those who weren’t so lucky.

Head Golf Pro Chris Arceneaux said he wanted to host the event "just to come help the people that are in need, that’s basically what we’re doing today."

Arceneaux is no stranger to helping those in need, regularly hosting cleanup events around Acadiana He said he wanted to "use the resources I have, the platform I have to help. And I know the need with looking at the devastation."

While Arceneaux is known for hosting community events around town, the devastation that Hurricane Ida brought to southeastern Louisiana also hit close to home for him.

"Of course my mom and sisters dealt with it in Baton Rouge so the family was hit hard, and we lost everything," Arceneaux said.

When asked why he felt it was important to help his fellow Louisianians, he said it is because he’s been in their position before.

"You can’t think about anything else; you just want to get back to your home," Arceneaux said. "I remember dealing with the same thing with a flood that I had in New York. I lost everything."
