UPDATE: Markentae Williams was taken into custody. Williams was arrested in Jeff Davis Parish, after being involved in a pursuit that began in Calcasieu Parish and ended in Jeff Davis Parish over last weekend. Williams is currently being held in Jeff Davis Parish for charges related to the pursuit. Williams will be transferred to the St. Landry Parish Jail when released from Jeff Davis Parish and will face charges of attempted first degree murder and armed robbery.
The Opelousas Police Department began investigated a shooting in the 800 blk of Patsy St on February 23, 2021. One male victim was struck in the back and transported to a local hospital in serious injuries. Investigators were able to obtain information that identified Deandra Weston and Markentae Williams both from Mamou, La. as being responsible for the shooting. The shooting was a result of a robbery of a firearm and an undetermined amount of cash. Warrants were obtained for the arrest of both suspects for attempted first degree murder and Armed Robbery. Investigators with the assistance of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office and their S.W.A.T. Team were able to take Deandra Weston into custody in the 500 blk. of Fontenot Rd. Weston was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for one count of First degree murder and Armed Robbery. Investigators are still looking for Markentae Williams for his involvement in the crime.
