LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN)- One person is dead after a shooting happened at a car wash around 2:00 pm off of Eraste Landry and Cajundome Blvd.

Many neighbors of the car wash were either in their homes or business when the shooting happened. One woman, who wishes to not be identified, said she was in her kitchen when she heard the shots fired.

“Like tat tat tat tat. You know, it was a rapid shot of the fire. It was like fire after fire actually, it was two guns being shot,” the woman said.

The shooting claimed the life of one male who has yet to be identified.

The woman said that she saw the car of the suspect flee the scene.

“You could see a black car taken off down Cajundome Blvd,” she said.

According to the neighbor, crimes like this never happen in this neighborhood especially since it’s near many businesses.

“This is a very quiet neighborhood really is an industrial neighborhood. We don't have this kind of stuff in this neighborhood at all. Everyone has cameras down here. I promise you,” she said.

The Lafayette Police Department could not confirm the number of shots fired and if there was more than one gun at the time.

“Multiple they have not given a number but just multiple shots we're fired,” Bridgette Dugas, the Lafayette Police public information officer, said.

Dugas mentioned that detectives were going door to door to seek any possible footage.

“Our detectors are working, they are on the ground right now as we speak, to get information from local businesses that are surrounding this area, as well as residents that we do see, have cameras so yeah we are,” Dugas said.

Family members of the victim did arrive at the scene and neighbors say although they don’t know them, they send their deepest condolences.

“I'm sorry for your loss because there shouldn't have happened, you know, broad daylight. they don’t care about anybody anymore, you know. This needs to stop. You killing people for absolutely nothing,” the neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, said.

Officials have not yet confirmed any new information about the shooting. This is the third shooting in lafayette since Sunday afternoon.

The first was on Peach St. Shayne Burket was found shot outside a house there.

The other shooting happened Wednesday afternoon. A woman was shot and killed after answering the door at her home on Essie St.

Police are asking anyone with information on any of these crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 337-232-8477.
