LAFAYETTE, La. - Ochsner Lafayette General got some help battling the fourth Covid surge Wednesday. A 20-member team of navy medical specialists, four physicians, 14 nurses and two respiratory therapists , arrived on the hospital campus over the lunch hour.
They're one of five teams dispatched to Covid hot spots across the country. Ochsner Lafayette General requested the help through FEMA in late July and is glad to have the help.
Al Patin , CEO of Ochsner Lafayette General says, " The team is extremely excited for the support and welcoming of the support. We've been in this pandemic for a while, this is our fourth surge. And although there's some frustration from our team for having to do this again, they're rolling up their sleeves and we're gonna take care of our community, and this is just added support, and we're super thrilled that they're here to support our community.
The Navy team is undergoing an orientation and shadowed Oschner staff. The team is expected to begin caring for patients on Friday.
