Some exciting things are happening in the space world so let’s talk about a few of them.
It isn’t often that mankind reaches a new place they have never been before but this week a NASA spacecraft landed on an Asteroid, a first for NASA. The OSIRIS-REx space probe which was launched back in 2016 touched down over 200 million miles away on the Asteroid Bennu. While its arm was on the surface it collected surface samples of the asteroid. Here is the cool part though. These samples are planned to be sent back to Earth. The probe will jettison the collected samples and the plan is for them to land in Utah in 2023.
A little bit closer to home, we are expecting another cool sight in the night sky here in Acadiana. On Thursday night, the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn will be accompanying each other in the night sky. We are expecting some clouds but overall viewing should be good as the 3 celestial bodies will form a triangle in the sky.
As we go into next week the second full moon of the month is expected on Halloween night. We’ll talk about that and other interesting space news online on our website KADN.com.
