“Movin’ On To Mobile”

Lafayette Parks and Recreation Senior Walking Program

Posted: Oct 13, 2020 9:33 PM

Lafayette Parish residents, 50 and older, are invited to pick up where “Walking to New Orleans” left off and get “Movin’ on to Mobile.” The goal is to walk 145 miles, the distance from Café du Monde in New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama. “Walkers who joined us for “Walking to New Orleans” enjoyed the challenge of knowing we were walking toward a goal, rather than just walking. A leader board kept track of walkers as they made their way to Café du Monde in the French Quarter. Now it’s time to move on to Mobile,” Lafayette Parks and Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor Denise Ferguson said.

Walkers can join the group anytime between Wednesday, October 14 and January 6, 2021, when the program ends. Walkers can walk together, socially distanced, at Girard Park, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30 or can walk on their own, anywhere, anytime.

Anyone joining the program should download the free Nike Run Club app to enter the challenge. The app tracks miles walked and the progress of fellow walkers.
