Acadia Parish – On Nov. 21 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 90 (E. Texas Ave.) near Llama Road in Acadia Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 25-year-old Javier Senegal of Rayne.
The initial investigation revealed a 2019 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, being driven by Senegal, was traveling east on U.S. 90 at a high rate of speed. As Senegal approached a slower moving vehicle also traveling east, he applied his brakes as he passed that vehicle on the shoulder. The motorcycle began to skid and fell on its side causing Senegal to become unseated. At the same time, a 2017 Honda Accord, being driven by 24-year-old Shayna Meaux, was backing onto U.S. 90 from a private lot. Senegal and the motorcycle struck the rear quarter-panel of the backing Accord.
Senegal was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. On Nov. 26, Troop I was notified that Senegal succumbed to his injuries.
Meaux and a front seat passenger were properly restrained and neither were injured. Meaux did submit a breath sample which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.082g% in her system. She was, subsequently, charged with first-offense DWI. A toxicology sample was obtained from Senegal for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
Troop I has investigated 53 fatal crashes resulting in 58 deaths in 2020.
