Mayor Wayne Theriot of the village of Maurice issued the following statement in regards to the water system:

The new Village of Maurice water system is on line. You may be experiencing a high level of iron as we are continuing to flush the system. Flushing started from the plant outward which created a movement of the unfiltered water outward. Our maintenance crew is trying to get to all areas as quick as possible. This flushing will take about another two weeks. There is about 600,000 gallons in our system so it takes a while for the unfiltered water to exit. Once you notice your area flushed it is recommended that you run your water for about five to ten minutes to flush your home water system. You will notice that your hot water will take longer to clear because there is limited usage of hot water and the unfiltered water has settled. Running your hot water only for an extended period will help the unfiltered water exit your home system. You will also notice a higher level of softness than what you have experienced over the last few months. This is due to the new softeners that have been put on line.

With everybody’s patience the situation should improve over the next few weeks.
