According to Sergeant Chris Rudd of the New Iberia Police Department, in the early morning hours of October 1, 2020, Officers with the New Iberia Police Department responded to the 800 block of Buckeye Street in reference to a report of shots fired.
The investigation revealed several individuals were gathered in the area for unknown reasons when an unknown suspect(s) fired upon the group. Several individuals were struck by gunfire; one of the individuals, identified by the Iberia Parish Coroner's Office as 24 year old Bryson Charles of New Iberia, succumbed to injuries. Crime scene technicians have collected items believed to be instrumental to the investigation of this case; however, this investigation is ongoing.
