According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, On July 17, 2020, detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office received a call from a mental health professional in regards to a report of a child molestation incident.
Lewis G. Champagne was seeing a mental health professional for undisclosed reasons. During the first session, Champagne did not truthfully speak of the reason he was seeking professional assistance. During the second session, Lewis Champagne admitted to inappropriately touching one of his juvenile daughters several times.
Upon further investigation by detectives, it was determined that Lewis Champagne had inappropriately touched both of his juvenile daughters, who were under the age of 16 years at the time of the incidents. Lewis
Champagne admitted to the sexual abuse in text messages to the mother of the juveniles and apologized for his behavior.
On July 28, 2020, Lewis Champagne was booked on three (3) counts of sexual battery at the St. Landry Parish Jail and given a total bond of $36,000.
