On September 6, 2020 at approximately 7:00 PM officers with the Opelousas Police Department responded to a call in the 200 blk of Oleander St for a person being shot. Upon arrival officers located one male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. It was determined that the shooting actual occurred just out of the city limits of Opelousas. The St. Landry Sheriff’s Office was notified and handled the investigation of the shooting that had occurred on Lofton St. The shooting did result in a fatality. During the course of the investigation into the incident it was learned that a group of juveniles and at least one adult,  Brandon Richard Sr. were involved in a fight on W. Grolee St. in front of Grolee Elementary. It was learned that after another disturbance had occurred earlier in the area between groups of juveniles, Brandon Richard Sr. brought a juvenile aged person to the location of the fight on W. Grolee St. in an effort to have this juvenile engage in a fight with another juvenile. It was learned that Richard brandished a firearm and threatened others in the area to not get involved and let them fight. The fight was brief but the resulting aftermath was the shooting that led to the fatality on Lofton St. Richard was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:
