Lafayette,LA -   It's  good to know that love is still in the air. I spoke to one couple that's been married for fifty-four years, and they say they'll always have a special place in their heart for Lafayette Lanes because ist where they laid eyes on each other for the very first time. The closing of Lafayette Lanes hit the Acadiana area hard because so many memories transpired there.

"It was really nice to see the actual place it helps us remember", says Gary Reynolds.

For one couple, it was where they first laid eyes on one another. Reynolds says there was an immediate spark when he first laid eyes on Peggy Herbet at Lafayette Lanes bowling alley.

"I looked up by the counter, and there's this really beautiful girl right next to the counter dressed really nicely, just beautiful. So I turned to my friend and said, who is that and he said don't even try it."

"We learned that it was going to close, we were kind of sadden by it," says Peggy Reynolds.

The couple says they didn't get the chance to visit the bowling alley before it closed, but thanks to their granddaughter Dominique, she was able to make it happen. "Just to go and reminisce of old times and look at things and how it changed from now and then. Somethings were the same and some things changed a lot."

The reynolds were shocked to see the love they were receiving on tik tok after their granddaughter filmed them taking pictures inside the bowling alley where they first met. "We're not on social media a whole lot . we're both shocked by it. It's like what's going on.  I don't comprehend the ...so many views. I just don't comprehend it."

Mr. Reynolds says he can see why it's happening. People love to see others in love, especially when it's been for a long time. "They want to know that it possible to have a relationship that will last and that there are good things happening in the world."

I asked the couple what's the secret to making a relationship last a lifetime, Mr. Reynolds responded back immediately to my question. "If you love the other person, you want what's best for them anyway., as you said earlier. You put yourself aside, and you put the other person first, and you move through whatever trouble is."

The couple says that many people were suggesting they purchase the old Lafayette Lanes building and make it a date night place for couples. Mrs. Reynolds says what a great suggestion that is. You never know.
