SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Louisiana oilman who survived a fatal explosion and house fire in 2019 has died in the crash of a one-seat jet plane assembled from a kit.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says Fred L. Phillips of Shreveport died Sunday when his single-engine SubSonex plane crashed into Cross Lake. An official of a related company says Phillips was president and CEO of Phillips Energy Inc.
A sheriff's office news release says he flew about nine minutes before crashing. News agencies report that in 2019, Phillips was severely burned in a fire that killed his longtime partner, Electra Churchill, in Archuleta County, Colorado.
