Look to the Sky with NASA for International Observe The Moon Night This Weekend

Posted: Sep 24, 2020 5:04 PM

This Saturday is NASA’s International Observe the Moon Night. This yearly event tries to create interest and try to educate people around the world about the moon and science. The best part about the night is that anyone can participate. All you have to do is look up at the night sky.

According to NASA the night is meant to:
     1. Unite people across the globe in a celebration of lunar observation, science, and exploration.
     2. Provide information, a platform, and resources in order to:

  • Raise awareness of NASA’s lunar science and exploration programs.
  • Empower people to learn more about the Moon and space science and exploration, using Earth’s Moon as an accessible entry point.
  • Facilitate sharing of Moon-inspired stories, images, artwork, and more.
  • Inspire continued observation of the Moon, the sky, and the world around us.

With the ongoing Pandemic, most events have been canceled across the country but, some virtual events are still taking place including here in Lafayette! Also some good news, as of right now the weather is looking to cooperate Saturday night with partly cloudy conditions possible. The moon will be visible after sunset in its Waxing Gibbous Phase.
A virtual event has been scheduled for Observe the Moon Night at the Lafayette Science Museum. You can find out more information here:
