Lafayette,LA -  For those who had no choice but to leave their homes due to Hurricane Ida, one local pharmacy wants you to know they can help if you need your medication.

"Immediately we thinking about everyone that had to evacuate to the lafayette or acadiana area.", says pharmacist Tori Griggs.

For those that evacuated to the area, Guilbeau's Thrifty Way Pharmacy stepped up to the plate to help those that may not have had the chance to grab their medication before they evacuated."We wanted to just make sure that they were taken care of with their medications because we know how important it is that patients do stay on their medications and don't have a lapsed in their therapy time.", says Griggs.

Pharmacists understand during this challenging time for many, most don't have a timetable of when they will be returning home. Griggs says that the pharmacy is making sure that patients have access to the medications that they regularly take. "To come over here and just thinking that they are going to be here for a couple of days and they realize that their bottle is empty, I have no refills and that's where we come in and the pharmacist can write an emergency prescription."

Griggs says their job is to make sure that patients take their medications correctly, now more than ever. by coming into the pharmacy, they can make sure patients are on the right track. "Patients might think that they take something twice a day whereas they only take it once a day and that is really important to us that we are getting them on exactly what they are taking."

Ida Guillory has been come to guilbeau's thrifty way pharmacy for about three years and says if she were in an evacuee's position, she would be touched by the gesture. "I would feel great about it. it's a wonderful idea. they have the medication right on time. fantastic pharmacy."

The pharmacy also wants people to know that patients who don't have insurance are welcome to stop by, their number one goal is to make sure that no one goes without their medicine.

Guilbeau's Thrifty Way Pharmacy is at 208 E St Peter St, Carencro, LA 70520. They are willing to mail your medications to you if transportation is not available. For those that need to refill their prescription should know that a pharmacist may dispense an emergency prescription of up to a ninety day supply of prescribed medication.
