(Scott, LA) - A traffic officer with Scott Police Department saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in a No Passing Zone in the 700 block of Mills St. As the officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over.
While chasing the vehicle, officers were notified that the vehicle had just been stolen from a tow yard on Cameron St. Officers gave chase and was joined by deputies with Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. The driver led officers down several streets north of Scott before getting stuck in the mud in a field.
The driver then bailed on foot and attempted to flee through the tree line but was quickly apprehended. During the investigation, officers learned that the driver, identified as Nicholas Jones, 19, of Lafayette, entered the tow yard, stole a vehicle, and nearly struck the owner while fleeing.
The owner contacted 911 as the traffic officer was attempting to stop Jones.
