UPDATE: Victim Dies in Shooting in the 1000 Block of Ninth Street; Suspect Wanted

Lafayette Police investigation in shooting in the 1000 block of Ninth Street is still ongoing.

UPDATE 4:58PM- Lafayette, La. – Lafayette Police Department detectives need the public’s assistance in locating the suspect pictured in the attached photo. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue and white or camouflage shirt, white jogger pants that had a black stripe down the side, a black beanie, and dark colored shoes.

If anyone has any information, please contact the Lafayette Police Department.


UPDATE: Lafayette, La - The victim,  Derrick Williams,  26 of Lafayette, has died as of a result of his injuries. The suspect has not been identified.

The investigation is ongoing.


Lafayette, La. - On January 14, 2020, Lafayette Police Department officers responded to the 1000 Blk of 9th Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim was transported by an acquaintance to a local hospital. Witnesses advised responding officers that the suspect fled on foot from the scene.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen, and is listed in critical condition.

This is an ongoing investigation.
