Lafayette Police Investigates Homicide on Refinery St.

On August 12, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 Blk of S. Refinery St. in reference to a male subject lying in the roadway.

UPDATE: A juvenile male suspect was arrested. The names of both the victim and the suspect can not be released at the time. This is an ongoing investigation.

Lafayette, La. - On August 12, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 Blk of S. Refinery St. in reference to a male subject lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers were able to quickly determine that the individual was deceased. The victim was identified as Mr. Markeylan Edmond, (B/M) 20, of Lafayette.

The suspect, Mr. Johnathan Bargeman, (B/M) 42, of Lafayette was on scene when officers arrived. He was taken to the police department, and interviewed by investigators.

Investigators learned that of a verbal altercation between Mr. Edmond and Mr. Bargeman, and it turned violent when Mr. Bargeman produced a handgun and shot Mr. Edmond in the upper torso. Mr. Edmond succumbed to his injuries.

At the conclusion of his interview, Mr. Bargeman was charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where he was booked.

This is an ongoing investigation.
