Lafayette Parks and Recreation to Host Family Fun Day at Girard Park

A Lafayette Parks and Recreation and Basin Arts Event

Families are invited to a day of fun activities this Saturday at Girard Park. Basin Arts and Lafayette Consolidated Government are partnering to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month with a free event for families to spend quality time and get moving together. Family Fun day is scheduled on Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Basin Arts has organized the Movement Arts Challenge with a circuit of dance and fitness activities presented by Basin Dance Collective, Stretch-N-Grow, Kabuki Dancers, Fire Expressions, Lafayette School of Performing Arts, and Moriah Istre. Families will learn different dance styles from zydeco to aerial arts to breakin' to creative movement, ballet and more. The Movement Challenge takes place from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Inside the recreation center, families can observe recreation classes that Parks and Recreation offers:

* Karate at 9:00 a.m.
* Fencing at 10:00 a.m.
* Zumba at 11:00 a.m.

All COVID-19 safety protocols will be enforced. Outdoor activities will be offered in small groups with safe social distancing. The recreation center will maintain a 50-person capacity in accordance with CDC guidelines and require masks.
